My intention is to embed a series of allusive forms into a gestural field. These forms are in a state of both emergence and collapse. Stylistic and art historical conventions such as Cubo- Futurism and Semi-Automatism are draped over conventional armatures of human, animal and calligraphic forms. Though my creative process is both contemporary and experimental, my work is influenced by Classicism, Baroque, and Mannerism. The images enter into a dialogue between pattern and randomness, presence and absence. The passage of time is evoked through the permutations from one form to another. I imagine the shapes I am painting to be in a dynamic rather than static state. I am searching for images that exist on the periphery of vision and consciousness—for a path into memory and the subconscious.
